KR TV로 보면 재밌어 보이는데, 막상 룰을 설명해 보라면 막막한 스포츠 1위가 야구다. 이 글은 “야구 거의 처음 보는 사람” 기준으로 최대한 쉽게 정리한 룰 가이드다.

1. 야구의 목표: 점수(득점)를 내는 것
Scoring Runs Is Everything
KR 야구의 목표는 간단하다. 타자가 공을 치고 1·2·3루를 돌아 홈 플레이트까지 돌아오면 1점을 얻는다. 더 많은 점수를 내는 팀이 이긴다.

KR 야구장은 네 개의 베이스(1·2·3루와 홈)를 잇는 마름모꼴(다이아몬드) 구조다.

KR 타자는 공을 친 뒤 아웃되지 않고 다음 베이스로 한 칸씩 진루해야 한다.

2. 경기 시간 대신 이닝으로 진행
Innings Instead of a Game Clock
KR 야구에는 축구처럼 “시간 제한”이 없다. 대신 보통 9이닝(한국 아마추어는 7이닝 등)을 치르고 더 많은 점수를 낸 팀이 승리한다.

Top & Bottom · 초와 말
KR 각 이닝은 두 부분으로 나뉜다. 이닝 앞부분은 원정 팀 공격(초), 뒷부분은 홈 팀 공격(말)이다.
EN Each inning has two halves: in the top half, the visiting team bats; in the bottom half, the home team bats.
KR 9회말까지 끝났는데 동점이면, 연장전(extra innings)으로 이어질 수 있다.

3. 아웃 3개면 공격 종료
Three Outs End Your Turn
KR 한 팀은 공격(타격)을 하는 동안 3번 아웃 되면 그 이닝의 공격이 끝난다. 그러면 공격·수비가 서로 바뀐다.

Common Ways to Get Out
- KR 삼진(Strikeout) – 스트라이크 3번을 당해 아웃.

- KR 플라이 아웃(Fly out) – 뜬 공을 수비수가 공중에서 잡으면 아웃.
- EN Fly out – a fielder catches the ball in the air before it lands.
- KR 포스 아웃(Force out) – 주자가 반드시 가야 하는 베이스를 수비가 먼저 밟으면 주자는 아웃.

볼카운트 기본
Ball–Strike Count
- KR 스트라이크(Strike) – 규정 존(스트라이크 존)을 통과하거나, 휘둘렀는데 헛친 스윙.
- EN Strike – a pitch in the strike zone or a swing and miss.
- KR 볼(Ball) – 스트라이크 존을 벗어난 공을 타자가 치지 않았을 때.
- EN Ball – a pitch outside the strike zone that the batter does not swing at.
- KR 볼 넷(4 Balls) → 자동으로 1루 진루(볼넷, Walk).
- EN Four balls → the batter walks and goes to first base.
4. 홈런, 안타, 이게 다 뭐야?
Hits, Home Runs & Big Plays
안타(Hit)
KR 타자가 공을 필드 안에 잘 쳐서, 수비의 실책 없이 최소 1루까지 안전하게 출루하면 안타라고 부른다.
EN A hit happens when the batter puts the ball in fair territory and safely reaches at least first base without an error by the defense.
- KR 1루타, 2루타, 3루타, 홈런으로 구분한다.

홈런(Home Run)
KR 공을 경기장 담장 밖으로 쳐서 타자 본인을 포함해 베이스에 나가 있는 주자 모두가 홈까지 들어오는 플레이다.

5. 포지션 한눈에 보기
Key Positions on the Field
- KR 투수(Pitcher) – 마운드에서 공을 던지는 선수, 수비의 시작점.
- EN Pitcher – throws the ball from the mound and starts every play.
- KR 포수(Catcher) – 홈 플레이트 뒤에서 공을 받으며, 수비 전체를 조율하는 리더 역할.
- EN Catcher – receives pitches behind home plate and often leads the defense.
- KR 내야수(Infielders) – 1루·2루·3루·유격수로, 땅볼 처리와 베이스 플레이를 담당한다.
- EN Infielders – first, second, third basemen and shortstop, mainly handling ground balls and plays around the bases.
- KR 외야수(Outfielders) – 좌익수, 중견수, 우익수로 깊은 타구와 플라이볼을 처리한다.

6. 처음 야구 볼 때 여기만 보면 된다
What to Focus on as a New Viewer
- KR 지금 공격 팀이 몇 아웃인지, 주자가 어느 베이스에 있는지 본다.
- EN Always check how many outs there are and which bases have runners.
- KR 볼카운트(볼/스트라이크) 표시를 보면서 “지금 투수가 유리한지, 타자가 유리한지” 감각을 익힌다.
- EN Watch the ball–strike count to feel whether the pitcher or the batter is in a better situation.
- KR 득점 장면은 대부분 “안타 + 주루 플레이” 또는 “홈런”에서 나온다.
- EN Most scoring comes from a combination of hits and base running, or from home runs.
7. 한 번만 보면 어렵고, 두 번째부터는 패턴이 보인다

KR 야구 룰은 처음 들으면 복잡해 보이지만, “점수 내는 방법, 아웃 3개, 9이닝” 이 세 가지만 기억해도 경기 흐름은 대부분 따라갈 수 있다.
